After showcasing his skills in two G League Showcase games with the South Bay Lakers in Orlando, rookie Bronny James has been recalled to the Los Angeles Lakers’ main roster. The move, reported by NBA insider Marc Stein, positions James and teammate Maxwell Lewis to suit up for the Lakers’ home game against the Detroit Pistons on Monday night.
James made a solid impact during his G League stint, recording 16 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals in a 98-90 loss to the Greensboro Swarm on Thursday. In a subsequent 120-104 victory over the Osceola Magic on Saturday, he added six points and seven assists. Lewis also impressed, contributing 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists across the two games.
With South Bay’s next game not until Friday, this recall provides James and Lewis an opportunity to gain valuable experience with the main roster. Their return coincides with the Lakers’ latest injury report, which lists Anthony Davis (left elbow contusion) and LeBron James (left foot injury management) as questionable for Monday’s game.
The Lakers are currently atop the Pacific Division with a 16-12 record, bolstered by a three-game winning streak. The team is looking to extend its momentum against the Pistons, who hold a 12-17 record.
Bronny James’ return raises the possibility of the rookie making his NBA debut, particularly with the Lakers managing injuries to key players. His recent performances in the G League have demonstrated his growth and readiness, and he may play a role as Los Angeles aims to maintain its strong form.
