Shaw scores century on Maharashtra debut, says he’s ready to restart

Prithvi Shaw has embraced a fresh start with Maharashtra, marking his debut with a commanding century in the Buchi Babu tournament against Chhattisgarh. On a challenging Chennai pitch that offered turn and variable bounce, Shaw stood tall with an aggressive 111 off 141 balls, while the rest of Maharashtra’s batting lineup managed just 92 runs combined. His knock, filled with 15 fours and a six, highlighted both his intent and his ability to adapt when wickets tumbled early.

Shaw admitted he is “starting from scratch” to revive his career after setbacks. Having been dropped by Mumbai for poor fitness and going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, he worked hard on conditioning in recent months with a personal trainer and dietitian. “These three-four months have really changed me physically and mentally. It can be seen on the field,” he said.

The opener explained that patience was key once Maharashtra collapsed from 71 for no loss to 17 for four. He steadied himself before resuming his natural attacking play, bringing up his maiden Maharashtra ton with a calm shot to midwicket.

Shaw credited his family, childhood coach Prashant Shetty, and switching off from social media for helping him remain balanced during tough times. “It’s peaceful when I’m not using it. For me, it’s about learning, not losing,” he reflected.

His move to Maharashtra has been smooth, thanks to familiar faces like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, and Prashant Solanki. Shaw now prefers focusing on the present, rather than looking too far ahead. With renewed discipline, fitness, and confidence, the 24-year-old hopes his new chapter with Maharashtra will reignite his career and reward those who have supported him through his struggles.
