PBKS Hit Hard as Lockie Ferguson Likely Out for Rest of IPL 2025

In a significant setback for Punjab Kings (PBKS), pace spearhead Lockie Ferguson is likely to miss the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. The Kiwi speedster suffered an injury during PBKS’ recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he could bowl only two deliveries before limping off the field. He did not return to complete his over, forcing Punjab to reshuffle their bowling plans mid-game.

Ferguson’s Injury Adds to PBKS Concerns

PBKS Hit Hard as Lockie Ferguson Likely Out for Rest of IPL 2025Speaking ahead of PBKS’ upcoming clash against Kolkata Knight Riders, bowling coach James Hopes confirmed that Ferguson’s chances of returning this season are extremely slim. “Ferguson is out indefinitely, and us getting him back by the end of the tournament is a very low percentage. I think he’s done a real decent injury to himself,” Hopes told Cricbuzz. Reports suggest that the pacer has damaged his left thigh, which has been a recurring issue in his injury-prone career.

Ferguson had been in fine form prior to the setback, picking up five wickets at an impressive strike rate of 13.60. His pace and aggression were vital to PBKS’ bowling strategy, making his absence a major loss as the team enters a crucial phase of the league.

Possible Replacement on the Cards

With Ferguson out, PBKS may turn to Australian fast bowler Xavier Bartlett as a replacement option. The team, captained by Shreyas Iyer, has had a decent start to the season with three wins from five matches. However, they’ll now need to find a way to fill the gap left by one of their most effective bowlers.

PBKS will look to regroup and adapt quickly as they face KKR in their sixth group-stage game on Tuesday.
