Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has withdrawn from the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025), delivering a setback to Islamabad United ahead of their tournament opener. The franchise confirmed Carey’s unavailability just before their first match against Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Alex Carey was named as a replacement for South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen, who was expected to miss the initial phase of PSL 2025. However, according to Express Tribune, Carey has withdrawn due to his domestic cricket commitments in Australia, which clash with the PSL schedule.
With Carey now unavailable, Islamabad United is hoping van der Dussen can return sooner than expected to take his place. So far, the franchise has not announced any new replacement for the Australian wicketkeeper-batter.
Carey’s withdrawal adds to a growing list of overseas absentees at the start of PSL 2025. Earlier, former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was also ruled out of the opening matches. Williamson, picked by Karachi Kings after going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, is unavailable for the initial phase of the tournament.
Despite this setback, Islamabad United remains one of the strongest squads in the competition. Led by Shadab Khan, the team features a solid mix of international stars and domestic performers. They will kick off their campaign against defending champions Lahore Qalandars in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Islamabad United Squad for PSL 10:
Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah, Azam Khan, Matthew Short, Imad Wasim, Jason Holder, Haider Ali, Salman Ali Agha, Ben Dwarshuis, Colin Munro, Rumman Raees, Andries Gous, Mohammad Nawaz, Salman Irshad, Hunain Shah, Saad Masood, Rassie van der Dussen, Riley Meredith, Sam Billings.
