Ajinkya Rahane is on the verge of a significant IPL milestone as he approaches 800 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He needs just 55 more runs to become the fourth batter to achieve this feat against RCB. So far, Rahane has scored 745 runs in 23 innings against the Bengaluru-based franchise.
The IPL 2025 season kicks off in less than 24 hours, with RCB taking on defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on March 22, starting at 7:30 PM. Interestingly, KKR will have a new captain this year, as Ajinkya Rahane replaces Shreyas Iyer, who joined Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Rahane’s Chance to Enter Elite Club

Rahane will lead KKR in the opening match, which gives him a golden opportunity to join an elite list of players with 800+ runs against RCB. MS Dhoni leads the chart with 864 runs in 33 innings, followed by David Warner with 862 runs in 23 innings. Rohit Sharma is third with 831 runs in 32 innings. If Rahane scores the required 55 runs, he will join this exclusive group of players who have dominated RCB over the years.
Can Rahane Be a Successful KKR Captain?
KKR’s decision to appoint Rahane as captain is a bold move. He previously led Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiant in 25 IPL matches between 2017 and 2019, securing 9 wins and suffering 16 losses. However, his leadership at home has been relatively strong, with 6 wins in 11 matches.
As Rahane takes charge of KKR, all eyes will be on his captaincy and whether he can guide the team to success while adding another milestone to his name.
