Riyan Parag is set to make his much-awaited return to competitive cricket by leading Assam in their final Ranji Trophy league match against Saurashtra. The 23-year-old all-rounder has been out of action since October 2024 after suffering a shoulder injury during India’s third T20I against Bangladesh. After undergoing surgery, Parag is eager to regain his form and fitness.

His absence was deeply felt, especially as he missed key series against South Africa and England. However, his return now offers a significant boost for Assam, who have struggled in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Currently, the team sits at the bottom of the Elite Group D table, having failed to win any of their six matches. Nevertheless, Parag’s leadership and experience could help the team salvage some pride in their final fixture.
Parag had an impressive 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season before his injury, scoring 378 runs in six innings at an average of 75.60, with a strike rate of 113.85. His strong performances with the bat make him a key player in Assam’s lineup and provide an opportunity to showcase his readiness for a potential return to the Indian team.
This match is crucial for both Assam’s hopes in the tournament and Parag’s aspirations to make an international comeback. A standout performance could pave the way for his inclusion in India’s future squads.
Assam’s squad for the match includes: Riyan Parag (c), Denish Das, Mukhtar Hussain, Mrinmoy Dutta, Rahul Singh, Dipjyoti Saikia, Parvez Musaraf, Sumit Ghadigaonkar (wk), Rishav Das, Anurag Talukdar (wk), Avinav Choudhury, Sibsankar Roy, Akash Sengupta, Pradyun Saikia, Amlanjyoti Das.
