Smith’s century was his third in the BBL, tying him with Ben McDermott for the most in the tournament’s history. Despite being overlooked in international T20 cricket, Smith showcased his T20 value with another outstanding performance. This century was his third in his last seven games, with 95 of those runs coming off just 40 balls. His innovative hitting, including switch-hits and powerful flicks, demonstrated his mastery over both short and long boundaries.

Meanwhile, Sean Abbott contributed with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 43 runs, including a pivotal spell that kept the Sixers in the running for the finals. The Scorchers put up a valiant fight, with Ashton Turner scoring 66 off 32 balls, but the required 23 runs from the final over proved too much.

Smith’s knock came at a crucial time when the Sixers were struggling early, with just 24 for 1 after five overs. But his aggressive assault, combined with Moises Henriques, set up a commanding total that the Scorchers could not chase down.

Tye and Richardson were expensive for the Scorchers, conceding over 60 runs each. Despite Turner’s efforts, the Scorchers’ fightback fell short, leaving them fifth on the ladder.
