With IPL 2025 just around the corner, franchises have finalized their squads and are gearing up for the season. Several young players have gained attention for their recent performances, and fans are eager to see them in the IPL. One such rising star is Australian prodigy Sam Konstas.

Konstas grabbed headlines with his fearless batting against Jasprit Bumrah during the MCG Test. He stunned everyone with a ramp shot against the Indian pacer and later made an explosive BBL debut for Sydney Thunder, smashing the fastest fifty by a debutant for the team. His aggressive style has made fans hopeful of seeing him in IPL 2025.
However, Konstas won’t be featuring in the upcoming IPL season due to the league’s replacement rules. According to IPL regulations, a player must have been part of the auction pool to be eligible as a replacement. Only players who registered for the auction and went unsold can be signed as replacements by any franchise. Players who didn’t register for the auction are ineligible to join any team during the season.
Additionally, franchises must have an available overseas slot to sign a foreign replacement for an Indian player. Since Konstas didn’t register for the IPL 2025 auction, no team can rope him in, even as a replacement for an injured player.
Fans may be disappointed, but the rules are clear. Konstas will have to wait until the next IPL auction to get a chance at showcasing his talent in the world’s biggest T20 league. Until then, his performances in international cricket and other T20 leagues will keep fans excited.
