In a significant move for the future, Kerala Blasters FC have secured a pre-contract agreement with Chennaiyin FC defender Bikash Yumnam. The 21-year-old, who is currently in the final year of his contract with the Marina Machans, will join the Blasters ahead of the 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL) season.
Under FIFA regulations, players with less than six months remaining on their contracts are free to negotiate and sign pre-agreements with other clubs, which Kerala Blasters have successfully capitalized on with Yumnam. The young defender’s deal with Chennaiyin FC expires at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, making him eligible for this arrangement.
Over the past few years, Yumnam has steadily established himself as a key figure in Chennaiyin FC’s defense, with 29 appearances and over 2,000 minutes of play. His defensive stats this season stand out, averaging 1.2 tackles, 3 duels won, 1.8 ball recoveries, and 19 clearances in just nine matches, alongside contributing an assist.
Yumnam has also represented India at various youth levels, ranging from U-16 to U-23, and has attracted attention regarding a potential senior national team call-up.

A source familiar with the deal shared, “Kerala Blasters acted swiftly to secure this multi-year contract with Bikash Yumnam, successfully warding off interest from other ISL clubs.”
This signing provides Kerala Blasters with the option of deploying an all-Indian defensive line, which could free up spots for four foreign players in more attacking positions. Additionally, the club is reportedly in advanced talks to bring in a foreign defensive midfielder during the January transfer window, further strengthening their squad.
With these strategic moves, Kerala Blasters aim to build a well-rounded, competitive team capable of challenging at the highest level, both for the remainder of the current ISL season and beyond.
