The Swedish striker, currently playing for Sporting CP, has taken Europe by storm with his incredible goalscoring form.
Gyökeres has netted an astonishing 52 goals in 55 matches across all competitions this year, making him the highest goal scorer of 2024. This impressive feat has already sparked interest from some of the top clubs in Europe. In comparison, Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski comes in second with 40 goals in 52 matches, while Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane ranks third with 39 goals in 43 appearances.
Once considered a flop during his stints at Brighton & Hove Albion and Coventry City, Gyökeres has undergone a remarkable transformation under the guidance of Sporting CP’s manager Ruben Amorim. His rise from a winger to one of Europe’s most prolific strikers has been a captivating journey.
Gyökeres began his football journey at the Swedish club Brommapojkarna at the age of 16. Despite initially starting as a winger, his dedication to his craft led him to transition into a center forward role. In an interview with ESPN, Gyökeres reflected on the intense training that fueled his development:
“Whilst everybody else had normal training, I was training by myself on the other side of the pitch honing something so basic. It was incredibly tough, but it took me to the next level.”
As Sporting CP prepares for the January transfer window, the club will likely face numerous offers for their star striker, who shows no signs of slowing down.
