The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 is tentatively set to begin before the IPL, with reports suggesting a likely start between February 6 and March 9, 2025. Although the exact dates are still to be finalized, the BCCI has shared this tentative schedule with the WPL franchises.

Regarding venues, Lucknow and Ahmedabad are reportedly the front-runners to host the WPL matches. Initially, cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru were considered due to the presence of franchise teams. However, Mumbai’s congested cricket calendar, coupled with the weather conditions in Bengaluru and Delhi, led the BCCI to reconsider these options. Ahmedabad, with its massive Narendra Modi Stadium, has emerged as a potential host, although its availability for the entire tournament remains uncertain. This leaves Lucknow as the most likely contender for the remaining matches.

The final of WPL 2025 is expected to take place between March 7 and 9, creating a short break before the IPL season begins. The tournament will feature five teams competing in a round-robin format, with 22 matches scheduled. Royal Challengers Bangalore, as the defending champions, will start the competition.

While the specifics are still being finalized, the WPL’s early timing ahead of the IPL ensures a seamless transition between the two major leagues, further enhancing women’s cricket in India.
