Fiorentina have issued a statement regarding midfielder Edoardo Bove, who collapsed during the first half of Sunday’s Serie A match against Inter Milan.
Bove, 22, went down off the ball in the 17th minute of the match, prompting immediate medical attention. The referee subsequently abandoned the game, and medical staff rushed the on-loan Roma prospect to the hospital. He remains in intensive care under sedation.
Fiorentina and the Careggi University Hospital issued a joint statement confirming that doctors stabilised Bove upon his arrival at the hospital. “ACF Fiorentina and the Careggi University Hospital announce that footballer Edoardo Bove, who lost consciousness during the Fiorentina v Inter match, is currently under sedation and hospitalised in intensive care,” the statement read.
“Upon his arrival at the emergency department, Bove was in stable haemodynamic condition. Initial cardiological and neurological tests have ruled out acute damage to his central nervous system and cardio-respiratory system. The medical team will re-evaluate him in the next 24 hours.”
The incident left players visibly shaken, with Bove’s teammate Andrea Colpani seen in tears as the medical team attended to the midfielder. After stretcher bearers took Bove off, both teams returned to their dressing rooms, and officials abandoned the match about 20 minutes later. Serie A confirmed that officials would not resume the game and would reschedule it for a later date.

A large section of the crowd, estimated at 20,000, stayed in the stadium until officials made the announcement. Fiorentina supporters from the Fiesole curve displayed a banner outside the Careggi hospital, where Bove is being treated, reading: “Forza Edoardo, Florence is with you.”
Bove’s parent club Roma also shared their support on social media, posting a message for the midfielder: “One of us, we are all with you, go Edo!” alongside a picture of Bove in action for Roma.
Fiorentina’s goalkeeper, former Manchester United star David de Gea, expressed his support with a heartfelt post, writing: “God please,” accompanied by a praying emoji.
Bove, who joined Fiorentina on loan from Roma at the start of this season, has made 14 appearances, scoring one goal and providing three assists. The former Italy under-21 international’s condition remains a focus of attention as fans and teammates alike continue to send their well-wishes.
