Ruben Amorim shared an emotional message with Manchester United supporters following his first home victory as manager, describing the moment as “special” and one he will cherish for the “rest of his career.”
After Rasmus Højlund’s brace secured a 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League, Amorim, who was appointed as United’s manager earlier this season, reflected on the warmth and support he felt from the fans. “Half of the stadium doesn’t know me, I came from Portugal and I did nothing for this club,” he said. “But the way they made me feel at home was special. The way they supported me made me feel like I am not alone. I will carry this with me for the rest of my career. I’m one of them now. I hope I do not disappoint them.”
United’s victory wasn’t without drama. After Alejandro Garnacho’s early opener, Bodo/Glimt mounted a surprise challenge with goals from Håkon Evjen and Philip Zinckernagel, leaving the home side trailing. But Højlund struck twice after halftime to seal the comeback, marking his second goal of the season and ensuring the team’s second win in the competition.
Reflecting on the match, Amorim smiled, acknowledging the intensity of the encounter. “It was like a real ride,” he said. “I saw what everybody sees – the good moments, the difficult moments. The players tried to execute what we worked on in the last three days, and we deserved the win.”
Højlund, who had struggled for form under previous managers, expressed optimism about his future under Amorim’s system. “It’s going to take time, but we can already see some patterns,” he said. “This system reminds me of how I played in a 3-4-3 at Atalanta. It suits me.”
The victory, witnessed by United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, marked an emotional and significant milestone in Amorim’s United career, as the manager now looks to build on this early success.
