Will Jacks had an impressive outing in the IPL last season, becoming one of the standout performers for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The English batter made a significant impact, even scoring a century against Gujarat Titans, and stepping in for the struggling Glenn Maxwell in the playing XI. Despite his strong performances, RCB made the surprising decision to let him go ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.

In a major shock during the auction, Mumbai Indians secured Jacks for INR 5.25 crore. RCB had the option to use the Right to Match (RTM) card, but to the surprise of many, the franchise chose not to exercise it. Instead, Mumbai Indians snapped up the talented batter, raising questions about RCB’s strategy.
RCB did use their RTM for Swapnil Singh, but when it came to Jacks, they opted against it. This decision allowed Mumbai to secure a player who had shown great potential.
One reason for RCB’s decision could be their recent auction moves. They bought Tim David for INR 3 crore, a player who plays a similar role to Jacks. While Jacks excels at the top of the order, RCB already has Virat Kohli and Phil Salt filling those spots. David, on the other hand, is a proven finisher with more IPL experience, which is a key area of need for RCB.
Jacks’ IPL stats from last season reflect his promise, with 230 runs from 8 matches, including a century and an explosive strike rate of 175. Despite his potential, RCB chose not to bring him back, leaving Mumbai Indians with a valuable player for the upcoming season.
