Jude Bellingham Pays Tribute to Lee Carsley After Emotional England Goodbye

Jude Bellingham has offered a heartfelt tribute to Lee Carsley as the interim England boss prepares to step down after a successful six-game spell in charge of the senior team. Carsley, 50, will return to his role as manager of the England Under-21s after overseeing the senior squad following Gareth Southgate’s departure. Thomas Tuchel will take over as permanent head coach in the new year after signing an 18-month deal.

Carsley leaves the senior team on a high note, having led England to promotion in the UEFA Nations League with a dominant 5-0 victory over Ireland in his final match. He also provided valuable opportunities for emerging talent, giving the next generation of players a chance to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Bellingham, who has been a standout player for both England and his club, Real Madrid, reflected on his time under Carsley’s leadership. The 21-year-old praised the interim boss for restoring his confidence following the heartbreak of Euro 2024, where England were eliminated in the quarter-finals.

“Massive thanks to Lee and his staff for their work during these last camps,” Bellingham posted on Instagram. “I got my smile back in an England shirt, very grateful!”

England captain Harry Kane also expressed his appreciation for Carsley’s contribution. Kane acknowledged that following a challenging European Championship, the team’s motivation was tested but was lifted by Carsley’s energy and his ability to integrate younger players into the squad.

“Lee has been excellent, and so has the staff,” Kane said. “It’s never easy after a European Championship to come in and get the team going again, especially with the Nations League. But Lee showed great energy and gave opportunities to young players who might not have had a chance otherwise.”

Carsley himself has not ruled out taking on the role of full-time manager in the future. Reflecting on his brief tenure, he said, “It has given me and the staff confidence that we can do the job. To have the responsibility and the trust from my bosses has been a massive boost.”

FA Chief Executive Mark Bullingham also praised Carsley for his achievements, particularly in securing promotion to the Nations League’s top tier. “Lee has achieved the main objective from these six fixtures, and the players have really enjoyed working with him,” Bullingham said. “He will provide Thomas Tuchel with a thorough handover as the team begins preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.”

As Carsley transitions back to his Under-21 role, his legacy with the senior team is one of renewed optimism and an infusion of youthful talent, leaving England in good hands for the future.
