England pacer Reece Topley faced an ICC fine after an unusual incident during the first T20I against West Indies. Frustrated by a knee injury that forced him off the field, Topley took out his anger by smashing a chair against the handrail on his way back to the pavilion in Barbados. His actions breached ICC’s player conduct regulations, resulting in a 15% deduction from his match fee and one demerit point. Topley accepted the penalty without contest.

Topley’s career has already been marred by several injury setbacks, including absences from both the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. In the first T20I, he had bowled 2.4 overs, conceding 26 runs, before the rain delay intensified his knee niggle. Despite attempting to continue, he was visibly struggling and eventually left the field, disappointed.

The England team continued strong despite Topley’s exit, defeating West Indies by chasing a 183-run target, with Phil Salt scoring a century. England’s momentum carried into the second T20I, where they clinched a 7-wicket win, led by Jos Buttler’s explosive 83 off 45 balls and supported by Liam Livingstone’s quick-fire 23. England wrapped up the chase in just 14.5 overs, securing a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

With Topley sidelined for the second T20I, his participation in the remaining matches remains uncertain as England aims to continue their winning streak. The pacer’s return will depend on his recovery, adding a layer of suspense for the team as they eye a series victory.
