Perry’s Strong Performance Helps Sixers Beat Hurricanes

Ellyse Perry’s outstanding 86 led the Sydney Sixers to a narrow six-run victory over the Hobart Hurricanes, continuing their dominance in the WBBL. The Sixers posted 155 for 7, with Perry contributing 86 off 62 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes. Her knock was pivotal, especially after the Hurricanes dropped her on 4 early in her innings. Perry’s key partnerships included 37 with Ashleigh Gardner and 61 with Hollie Armitage. In the final over, Perry hit 14 runs, including a six over deep extra cover, before getting dismissed off the last ball.

Despite cameos from Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Elyse Villani, Chloe Tryon, and Lauren Smith, the Hurricanes were unable to chase down the target, finishing at 149 for 9. The Sixers have now won 19 of their 21 encounters against the Hurricanes, maintaining a perfect 7-0 record in Hobart.

Teenager Caoimhe Bray impressed with the ball, taking two key wickets, including Nicola Carey and Tryon. Sophie Ecclestone also played a crucial role, keeping the pressure on during the chase. Bray’s impact continued as she bowled a tight 16th over, taking two wickets for just four runs. Her fine diving catch behind the stumps to dismiss Carey was another highlight of the match.

The Hurricanes’ chase got off to a fast start with Lizelle Lee hitting a boundary off the first ball, but they lost wickets at regular intervals. Villani’s 19, including four boundaries in the power surge, was the highest score, but the Hurricanes fell short in the end. Perry’s all-around performance earned her praise, and the Sixers held on for a vital win.
