PAK vs AUS: Shaheen Afridi Close to Breaking Waqar Younis’ Record in Australia Series

Pakistan’s experienced fast bowler Shaheen Afridi is on the verge of breaking Waqar Younis’ significant record during the ongoing tour of Australia. Under the leadership of Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan is currently competing against Australia in a three-match ODI series, followed by three T20I matches scheduled between November 14 and 18.

PAK vs AUS: Shaheen Afridi Close to Breaking Waqar Younis' Record in Australia Series

Shaheen Afridi has a golden opportunity to surpass the legendary Waqar Younis on an elite list of wicket-takers. Currently, Afridi has taken 48 wickets against Australia in international cricket. If he claims twelve more wickets in the series, he will surpass Waqar’s total of 59 wickets against the Aussies. Notably, both bowlers have recorded one five-wicket haul against Australia in their careers. Should Shaheen achieve this feat on the current tour, he will officially move ahead of Waqar in the record books.

In the first ODI against Australia, Shaheen made a strong impression with both bat and ball. Coming in at number eight, he played a quick cameo, scoring 24 runs off just a few balls, including three fours and a huge six, before being bowled by Mitchell Starc. With the ball, Shaheen took the crucial wickets of Matthew Short and Josh Inglis, showcasing his all-round abilities.

Despite his impressive performance and a remarkable display from Haris Rauf, Australia remained on track for a thrilling win. At the time of writing, they were 196 for eight, with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc at the crease, poised to lead their side to victory. As Shaheen continues his pursuit of history, cricket fans eagerly await the outcomes of the upcoming matches.
