Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) plan to retain key players Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi, along with uncapped players Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni, for IPL 2025. This lineup suggests a strategic retention of emerging talent and proven performers. However, LSG is unlikely to retain KL Rahul, who has captained the team since its inception in 2022, unless both sides agree to a last-minute change. The franchise will have one Right-to-Match (RTM) card at the auction.
LSG hasn’t disclosed the financial details of these retentions yet. However, IPL retention rules require INR 51 crore to be deducted from their INR 120 crore purse, or more if the retained salaries exceed that amount.
Pooran, expected to be LSG’s top retention, has been a key player. The left-handed power hitter was the team’s second-highest scorer in 2024, captaining temporarily while KL Rahul recovered from an injury. His consistent IPL price growth since his debut in 2017 with Mumbai Indians underscores his value, reaching INR 16 crore with LSG in 2023.
LSG bought Mayank Yadav for INR 20 lakhs, and he quickly emerged as a standout performer, earning two Player-of-the-Match awards in his first two IPL games with impressive 150 kph-plus deliveries. Despite limited play due to injury, he secured a fast-bowling contract from the BCCI and is currently at their Centre of Excellence.
Ravi Bishnoi, retained since LSG’s 2022 formation, has proven his worth with consistent wicket-taking seasons. Alongside him, uncapped players Badoni and Mohsin Khan, both purchased for INR 20 lakhs, have made significant impacts. Badoni showed his aggressive batting abilities in 2023, while Mohsin made an impressive comeback after an injury, finishing 2024 with 10 wickets.
Together, this retained core reflects LSG’s balanced approach of experience and youth heading into IPL 2025.
