Parthiv Patel to Join Gujarat Titans as Coach

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel is all set to join the Gujarat Titans coaching staff for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. As per ESPNcricinfo, Parthiv will take on multiple roles, including serving as an assistant coach under head coach Ashish Nehra. In addition to his coaching duties, Parthiv will also be involved in talent scouting, a key part of his role with the franchise.

This marks Parthiv’s first coaching stint in the IPL. After retiring in 2020, he worked as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians for three seasons until 2023 and also served as the batting coach for MI Emirates in the inaugural ILT20 tournament in 2023. Notably, Parthiv becomes the second former India wicketkeeper, after Dinesh Karthik (with Royal Challengers Bangalore), to join an IPL coaching setup for the 2025 season.

During his IPL career, which spanned over a decade, Parthiv represented six franchises, including Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. He won the IPL title three times—once with Chennai in 2010 and twice with Mumbai in 2015 and 2017. As an opener, Parthiv scored 2848 runs in 139 IPL matches at a strike rate of over 120.

Gujarat Titans, who had finished seventh in IPL 2024 after winning the title in 2022 and later finishing runners-up in 2023, are now keen to return to winning ways. Therefore, Parthiv’s addition strengthens a support staff that already includes Ashish Nehra, Vikram Solanki (director of cricket), and Aashish Kapoor (assistant coach). Meanwhile, Gary Kirsten, the former South African batter and co-coach of the Titans, has parted ways with the team after IPL 2024 in order to take on a new role as Pakistan’s white-ball coach.
