In the ongoing first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Kyle Verreynne has made history by becoming the first South African wicketkeeper to score a century in Bangladesh. Verreynne achieved this milestone with a stunning 132-ball hundred, marking his second Test century.

He came to the crease at a pivotal moment when South Africa was struggling at 99 for 5, still trailing by seven runs. Verreynne then formed a crucial partnership, adding 119 runs for the eighth wicket with Wiaan Mulder, which significantly strengthened South Africa’s position in the match.
During his innings, Verreynne surpassed Mark Boucher’s previous record for the highest individual score by a South African against Bangladesh in Bangladesh, which was 71 runs. Before this Test, Verreynne had played 18 matches, scoring 719 runs at an average of 27.65, with one century to his name. Following his century, Verreynne celebrated by bowing to the dugout, reminiscent of Shubman Gill’s celebration after scoring a hundred.
As for the match so far, Bangladesh batted first but struggled, collapsing for just 106 runs. Kagiso Rabada, along with Mulder and Keshav Maharaj, took three wickets each to dismantle the Bangladeshi lineup. In response, South Africa faced early setbacks but ultimately recovered thanks to Verreynne’s and Mulder’s partnership. At the time of writing, South Africa stands at 290 for 8, holding a lead of 184 runs. This Test is critical for both teams, currently placed sixth and seventh in the World Test Championship standings.
