India is facing New Zealand in the first Test of a three-match series at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. After the first day washout, New Zealand took control on Day 2 and put India in trouble. Bowled out for just 46 runs, India has already conceded a significant lead to the visitors. To make matters worse, Rishabh Pant, one of India’s key batters, sustained an injury during the day’s play.

Pant’s injury occurred during the 37th over of New Zealand’s innings, when Ravindra Jadeja was building pressure following Will Young’s dismissal. Jadeja bowled a sharp turner that beat Devon Conway, pitching outside off-stump and turning into the batter. Conway attempted an expansive drive, but the ball missed his inside edge and struck Pant on the knee roll, which was unprotected. The wicketkeeper-batter appeared in severe pain and limped off the field for treatment.
Pant’s injury adds to India’s mounting concerns. The BCCI confirmed that he would be unavailable to keep wickets on Day 3, as announced on their X (formerly Twitter) account. The medical team is closely monitoring his condition, hoping to have him fit before India’s second innings.
Pant’s absence will affect both India’s batting depth and wicketkeeping, leaving the management and fans anxiously waiting for updates on his recovery.
