Lance Morris out with quad strain, hoping for quick recovery

Quick bowler Lance Morris sustained a quad strain during training, but the injury shouldn’t sideline him for long. The goal is for Morris to return before the end of the month, targeting Western Australia’s October 25 one-day match against Tasmania at the WACA.

Lance Morris, who last played for Western Australia against South Australia in September as part of his recovery from back issues, will miss the upcoming one-day game against Queensland. Despite this setback, he is hopeful of being fit in time for selection in either the Australia A or Australia ODI squads, which will be announced next week. Morris had aimed to feature in Sheffield Shield cricket early this season but will now miss Western Australia’s Shield game against Tasmania starting October 20. He could be available for the next Shield match on November 1, which overlaps with the first Australia A match against India A and the ODI series against Pakistan.

Lance Morris, who made his international debut against West Indies last season, remains optimistic about his recovery. “It’s frustrating to have to stop, but the silver lining is I’ve stayed fit and feel stronger than ever,” Lance Morris said.

Meanwhile, Mahli Beardman, a surprise call-up to Australia’s squad during the England tour, will make his season debut for Western Australia.

Western Australia squad: Ashton Turner (capt), Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Mahli Beardman, Cooper Connolly, Hilton Cartwright, Josh Inglis, Bryce Jackson, Jhye Richardson, D’Arcy Short, Andrew Tye, Sam Whiteman.

Queensland squad: Marnus Labuschagne (capt), Hugo Burdon, Jack Clayton, Lachlan Hearne, Usman Khawaja, Ben McDermott, Michael Neser, Matt Renshaw, Mark Steketee, Tom Straker, Mitch Swepson, Tom Whitney, Jack Wildermuth.
