Mohammed Siraj, the star Indian fast bowler, has been appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by the Congress-led Telangana government. He officially took charge by reporting to the Director General of Police (DGP) in Telangana, accompanied by MP M. Anil Kumar Yadav and TGMREIS president Mohammed Faheemuddin Qureshi.
The Chief Minister of Telangana previously announced that Siraj would receive a Group-1 government position to promote sports development in the state and reward athletes who achieve success. After assuming his new role, Siraj expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Telangana government for the honor.
As one of the most prominent sports figures from Telangana, Siraj has represented India with distinction across all formats. He played a key role in India’s victorious T20 World Cup campaign and will likely continue to contribute to Indian cricket for many years.
Siraj is not the first cricketer to hold a government position; others have paved the way. Deepti Sharma, an all-rounder on the Indian Women’s team, serves as a DSP in Uttar Pradesh. Joginder Sharma holds a similar position in Haryana, while Harbhajan Singh previously served as a DSP in Punjab. Additionally, Mahendra Singh Dhoni serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army, while Sachin Tendulkar holds the rank of Group Captain in the Indian Air Force.
Mohammed Siraj’s journey is truly an inspiring tale. Coming from humble beginnings as the son of an auto-rickshaw driver, he not only faced numerous challenges but also rose through the ranks of Indian cricket through hard work and skill. Thus, his determination and perseverance paved the way for his success. Making his T20I debut in 2017, his breakthrough moment came during India’s tour of Australia, where he showcased his talent and has since been a regular in international cricket.
