Mumbai scored 536 for 9, with Sarfaraz Khan achieving a historic 221* against Rest of India (ROI) in the Irani Cup. This remarkable performance marks Sarfaraz as the first batter to score a double-century for Mumbai in this tournament’s history.
Day two began with Mumbai at 237 for 4. Sarfaraz and Ajinkya Rahane (97) forged a crucial 131-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Rahane narrowly missed his century, falling to a bouncer from Yash Dayal, just three runs short. After Rahane’s dismissal, Tanush Kotian (64) joined Sarfaraz, and together they added 183 runs for the seventh wicket, showcasing solid teamwork as ROI bowled for 138 overs in Lucknow.
The afternoon session saw Mumbai dominate, scoring 111 runs in 26 wicketless overs, maintaining a run rate of 4.27. Sarfaraz led the charge, hitting boundaries off both Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar. He reached his 150 before Mumbai surpassed the 400-run mark.
Despite some late wickets, including Kotian falling to a slower ball from Prasidh, Sarfaraz continued his assault, smashing a six to bring up his double-century off 253 balls.
As the day concluded, Sarfaraz had overturned a caught-behind call and was instrumental in ensuring Mumbai passed 500 runs. With the trophy in sight, Mumbai needs a first-innings lead to secure victory if the match ends in a draw.
