The Trinbago Knight Riders, always seen as pre-tournament favorites in the CPL, have faced a challenging season. Despite this, captain Kieron Pollard remains optimistic, especially considering the difficulties they’ve encountered, such as injuries to key players Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, and Andre Russell.

Bravo has announced his retirement after a groin injury curtailed his CPL 2024 participation, while Narine is recovering from a quad strain. Russell, who dealt with a hamstring injury at the tournament’s start, is currently being managed carefully. Adding to their woes, USA fast bowler Ali Khan has missed the entire CPL season due to injury.
Pollard reflected on their performance, noting that TKR has won five out of eight matches, placing them fourth. “The first step in any tournament is to qualify. If we were in fifth or sixth place, it would be a different conversation,” he stated before their final home game against Barbados Royals. He acknowledged that while the competition has become tougher, all teams are improving tactically.
Over the years, TKR has boasted a star-studded lineup with the likes of Bravo, Narine, Russell, Pollard, and Nicholas Pooran. In CPL 2024, they have also discovered emerging talents, such as 21-year-old Shaqkere Parris and 27-year-old Keacy Carty, who has already played for the West Indies in both ODI and Test cricket. Parris has garnered attention for his impressive performances, including a 57 off 33 balls against St Lucia Kings.
Pollard emphasized the importance of developing local talent, stating, “We need the next batches of Dwayne Bravos, Sunil Narines, and Kieron Pollards.” He hopes that more local players will emerge in the future to strengthen the squad and the region’s cricket.
