The UFC has officially declared Jon Jones the greatest fighter in MMA history with a new promotional video. Airing during the latest episode of Contender Series on Tuesday night, the show dedicated the trailer entirely to celebrating Jones’s legendary career.
The video highlights some of Jones’s most significant achievements, including 15 championship wins, eight victories over UFC champions, and the record for the most wins in UFC light heavyweight history (20). The trailer features a voiceover from UFC President Dana White, commentator Jon Anik, and others, all extolling Jones as the greatest fighter of all time.
Dana White, a vocal advocate for Jones’s GOAT status, has recently made headlines for his insistence on Jones’s supremacy, despite his current ranking. White has actively engaged in public debates over the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings and has expressed frustration with Jones’s placement. In response to ongoing skepticism, White delivered a pointed remark at the Contender Series post-fight press conference.
“Did you guys see the stats?” White said, referencing Jones’s recent victory over the top heavyweight contender. “What’s amazing about technology is that we’re not far from A.I. handling these rankings, which will be a fantastic day for MMA. I’m really looking forward to that.”
Currently, the UFC has ranked Jones No. 3 in their pound-for-pound rankings, while the MMA Fighting Global pound-for-pound list places him at No. 8. His most recent bout was at UFC 285 in March 2023, where he defeated Ciryl Gane in under two minutes to secure the vacant heavyweight title. Jones is anticipated to defend his title against former champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, scheduled for November 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
