Indian cricket stalwart Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from international cricket on Saturday through a social media post, surprising fans and fellow cricketers alike.

Dhawan has been one of India’s finest players over the last decade, playing a pivotal role in the team’s success, including the 2013 Champions Trophy win. His absence in the 2019 World Cup semi-finals was keenly felt as India fell to New Zealand. Throughout his illustrious career, Dhawan formed strong bonds with his teammates, including Hardik Pandya, who shared a heartfelt message upon Dhawan’s retirement. “Only the best for you, Shikhi paa, congratulations on a wonderful career,” Hardik wrote.
Dhawan made his international debut in 2010 but initially struggled to secure a permanent spot in the team. His breakthrough came in 2013 during his Test debut against Australia, where he scored a remarkable 85-ball century, the fastest by a debutant. Dhawan further cemented his place in the team with a stellar performance in the 2013 Champions Trophy, where he was the highest run-scorer. His impressive displays continued in the 2015 World Cup, including a memorable century against South Africa at the MCG.
Dhawan last played for India in 2022, marking the end of a distinguished career that left a lasting impact on Indian cricket.
