Steven Smith hasn’t dismissed the idea of representing Australia at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, with T20 cricket being a format he envisions playing longer than others. Although retirement isn’t on his mind, Smith has signed a new three-year deal with Sydney Sixers, securing his involvement in professional cricket until at least 2026-27. However, to be part of the Olympics, Smith needs to reclaim his spot in Australia’s T20 squad after missing out on this year’s T20 World Cup.

“I could still be playing T20 cricket in four years, so you never know,” Smith said, adding that participating in the Olympics would be “cool.” For now, Smith isn’t planning to retire anytime soon and is focusing on the upcoming international season, which begins with ODIs in England and continues with a highly anticipated five-Test series against India.
Australia aims to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in ten years, and Smith is eager for the challenge. Having been elevated to opener after David Warner’s retirement, Smith is expected to face India’s formidable pace attack. Despite mixed results in recent Tests, Smith is looking forward to the battle, emphasizing that in a five-Test series, there’s little room for error. He remains open to where he bats, saying, “For me, it’s just a position. I’m happy to bat anywhere.”
