Cristiano Ronaldo could potentially make a return to Manchester United in a coaching or managerial role, according to his former teammate Louis Saha.
Ronaldo’s first stint at Old Trafford cemented his legacy at Manchester United, but controversies marred his second spell, culminating in his departure after a high-profile interview with Piers Morgan. Currently playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo is set to turn 40 in 2025 and has yet to disclose his plans beyond his playing career, including his potential involvement in the 2026 World Cup.
Despite not publicly expressing any interest in a future managerial career, Ronaldo’s passion and dedication could see him return to Manchester United in a new capacity, Saha suggests. Speaking to TVSporten, Saha expressed his belief that Ronaldo has the qualities necessary to succeed in coaching or management.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has the passion and dedication to return to Manchester United one day,” Saha said. “That could be as a coach or even a manager. His second spell didn’t end how everyone had hoped, and you can see why that frustrated him. He didn’t observe the same formula and didn’t notice the passion from young players that had been familiar to him.

Ronaldo’s second term at United was tumultuous, marked by disagreements with multiple managers and criticism of the club’s younger players. His candid interview with Morgan further strained relations, leading to his release in November 2022. Nevertheless, Ronaldo’s contributions included 27 goals in 54 appearances, and he remains a cherished figure among United fans.
Since moving to Al-Nassr, Ronaldo has enjoyed a successful stint, scoring 35 goals in his first full season. Although he is expected to remain with the Saudi club this season, his future beyond that is uncertain. Saha believes Ronaldo could excel in coaching, provided he adjusts his communication style.
“Now he will know that he needs to find new way to communicate when he becomes a coach,” Saha added. “It may not be as harsh or direct as it was during his time at the club. He will figure out how to be successful and use all his knowledge to do that. We’ve seen players like Roy Keane transition into management and succeed. Cristiano will understand what he needs to do as a manager. I see no reason why he wouldn’t be a success.”
As Ronaldo’s playing career progresses, the possibility of a return to Manchester United in a coaching role remains an intriguing prospect for fans and pundits alike.
