Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batter Niroshan Dickwella has been suspended indefinitely due to a doping violation, as confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket. Dickwella reportedly failed a doping test conducted by the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA) during the recent Lanka Premier League. As a result, he will be barred from all forms of cricket while investigations continue.

The suspension takes effect immediately and will remain until further notice. Sri Lanka Cricket’s media release stressed their commitment to maintaining the sport’s integrity. The test followed World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines. This initiative, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and SLADA, uses random tests to ensure cricket remains free from prohibited substances.
Dickwella, who captained Galle Marvels in the LPL 2024, last played for Sri Lanka in March 2023. He was named in the squad for Sri Lanka’s T20I series against Bangladesh earlier this year but did not play. The selectors had discussed his disciplinary issues with him before the series. Dickwella, known for his controversial off-field behavior and erratic form, was previously banned in 2021 for breaching bio-bubble protocols, along with Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilake.
Throughout his career, Dickwella has kept wicket for Sri Lanka in all formats, amassing 2,757 runs in Tests, 1,604 in ODIs, and 480 in T20Is.
