The Indian men’s cricket team secured a dramatic victory against Sri Lanka in the Super Over of the final match of the 2024 T20 series at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, completing a 3-0 series sweep.

Batting first, India posted 137/9, with Shubman Gill top-scoring with 39. Despite a strong run-chase led by Kusal Perera’s 46, Sri Lanka faltered in the final overs, leading to a tied match and a Super Over showdown.
Washington Sundar shone in the Super Over, restricting Sri Lanka to 2/2. Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav sealed the win with a boundary off the first ball.
Asked to bat first by Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka, India had a shaky start. Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) was dismissed early, followed by Sanju Samson for a duck. Rinku Singh (1) and Suryakumar (8) fell quickly, leaving India at 30/4 in 5.4 overs. Shubman Gill’s 39 (37 balls), along with contributions from Riyan Parag (26 off 18) and Washington Sundar (25 off 18), helped India reach 137/9. Maheesh Theekshana was the pick of the Lankan bowlers with 3/28, while Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets.
Sri Lanka started their chase strongly, with Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis putting together a 58-run opening stand. Nissanka scored 26, while Mendis contributed 43. Sundar’s two quick wickets brought India back into the game. With Sri Lanka needing nine runs off the last 12 deliveries, India turned to Rinku Singh and Suryakumar Yadav. Both bowled for the first time in T20 Internationals and took two wickets each, forcing a Super Over.
In the Super Over, Sundar dismissed Perera and Nissanka, setting India a target of three runs. Suryakumar’s boundary off the first ball clinched a spectacular comeback win for India.
