Jonathan Trott to Coach Pretoria Capitals in SA20 2025 After Leading Afghanistan to T20 World Cup Success

Former English batter Jonathan Trott will take over as the new head coach of the Pretoria Capitals for the SA20 2025 season, succeeding Graham Ford, who stepped down from the role in June. The 43-year-old Trott currently leads the Afghanistan cricket team, a position he has held since 2022. Under his guidance, Afghanistan achieved its best-ever finish in a T20 World Cup, reaching the semifinals in the 2024 edition. His contract with the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is due to expire later this year.

The Pretoria Capitals struggled in the SA20 2024 season, finishing fifth in the six-team competition and missing out on the playoffs. With Ford’s departure, the franchise has turned to Trott to fill the vacant head coach position. Trott will join the Pretoria Capitals in January for the SA20 2025 season, with no current conflicts with his international commitments.

Jonathan Trott’s cricketing career includes 52 Test matches and 75 white-ball games for England, where he accumulated nearly 7,000 runs, including 13 centuries and 42 half-centuries. Moreover, his extensive experience as a player, combined with his recent success as a coach with Afghanistan, makes him a promising addition to the Pretoria Capitals. Consequently, they aim to improve their performance in the upcoming SA20 season.
