Harry Maguire Reaffirms Commitment to Manchester United Amidst Challenging Season

Despite a challenging season at Old Trafford, which saw Manchester United end on a high by clinching the FA Cup with a victory over Manchester City, Harry Maguire is optimistic about his future at the club. The 31-year-old defender, who was close to leaving the club last summer. Has made 22 Premier League appearances this season, amidst a backdrop of defensive injuries and his own struggles with fitness.

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News, Maguire expressed his determination to remain at Manchester United, provided the club does not indicate otherwise. “Unless the club tells me I’m up for sale or no longer wanted, everything I’ve heard suggests I’m part of the future,” he stated. Maguire is eager to contribute to the club’s success and aims to challenge for major trophies. “That’s what this club demands,” he added.

Reflecting on his recent injury struggles, Maguire described the past few months as the toughest of his career. Missing out on the FA Cup final and England’s Euro 2024 campaign was particularly disheartening for him. “It was probably the toughest moment in my career to date,” he admitted. Despite the setbacks, the upcoming season under manager Erik ten Hag. Who recently signed a contract extension until 2026, remains Maguire’s focus.

Maguire praised Ten Hag’s handling of the pressure leading up to cup final and the manager’s role in their success. “It was really impressive,” he said. The arrival of new staff members Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake has also added to the optimism surrounding the club’s preparations for the new season.

Manchester United’s 2024/25 Premier-League campaign will kick off with a home match against Fulham on August-16, live on Sky Sports. The team will also face Liverpool in a key early-season fixture, with the reverse match scheduled for January 4, 2025. The first Manchester derby is set for December 14, with the return game at Old Trafford on April 5. The season will conclude with a home game against Aston Villa on May 25.

The 2024 summer transfer window will close on August-30 at 11pm UK time, aligning with other major European leagues’ deadlines.
