The fallout from Pakistan Cricket Board NOC denial is becoming evident as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) denied No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. The trio sought NOCs to participate in the Global T20 League in Canada, but the PCB rejected their requests.

The PCB’s decision highlights a shift in priorities as Pakistan gears up for a packed cricket schedule in 2024-2025, leading up to the Champions Trophy 2025, which they will host. The board emphasized workload management policy, citing an extensive cricket calendar from August 2024 to March 2025, including nine ICC World Test Championship matches, 14 ODIs, and nine T20Is. The PCB’s statement highlighted the need for the players to rest and be in optimal condition for the upcoming series, starting with a two-Test series against Bangladesh.
This move is part of a broader trend of PCB asserting control over player participation in franchise leagues. Previously, Haris Rauf faced backlash for opting to play in the Big Bash League instead of the Australia Test series. The PCB’s decision to deny NOCs continues its effort to manage player workloads and maintain a competitive edge.
The PCB’s new stance may please critics of the top players’ commitments, but it will likely ignite ongoing debate and tension within Pakistan cricket.
