Jadon Sancho has offered his best wishes to Mason Greenwood following the latter’s transfer to Marseille.
Greenwood finalized his move from Manchester United on Thursday evening, with the club receiving £26.6 million plus a share of any future transfer fee. The 22-year-old has signed a contract with the Ligue 1 side that runs until 2029.
In his Instagram post celebrating the transfer, Greenwood shared a photo of himself signing the contract and expressed his excitement: “Really excited for this new chapter. Allez l’OM!”
Sancho, who has recently resumed training with Manchester United after a resolution with manager Erik ten Hag, responded with a raised hands emoji. Former United winger Anthony Elanga also chimed in with “Allez Mon garrrrr,” and Shole Shoretire posted, “All the best broski.”
Greenwood, who had not played for United since 2022, was arrested that October and faced charges of attempted rape. Controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. These charges were dropped in February 2023. United then conducted a six-month internal review before deciding Greenwood’s future lay elsewhere.
Greenwood had a loan spell at Getafe last season, where he scored 10 goals and provided six assists over 36 appearances, attracting interest from European clubs.
Despite offers from Lazio, Marseille secured his signature. The move has faced criticism, with Marseille Mayor Benoit Payan expressing concerns about the potential negative impact on the club’s reputation.
However, new Olympic Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi defended the decision. “He is a champion, an international-level player,” De Zerbi said. “I don’t know his past, and I don’t like to interfere in players’ private lives. When a player joins my club, I consider him like a son. I protect him publicly, even if I address issues privately.”
