Indian captain Shubman Gill praised Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad for their impactful performances in the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare. After Gill’s dismissal in the second over, Abhishek and Ruturaj faced the pressure to rescue India from a difficult situation. They rose to the challenge by playing aggressively on the favorable Harare pitch.
Abhishek Sharma, after taking some time to settle, hit seven boundaries and eight sixes to score a brilliant century in only his second international match. Gaikwad took charge after Abhishek’s departure, finishing with an unbeaten 77 off 47 balls. Gill praised their mature innings despite their limited international experience, emphasizing their value to the team.
Shubman Gill’s Post-Match Praise
“Very happy, great to be back on the winning note. With the way Abhishek and Rutu (Gaikwad) batted, it was not easy, especially in the powerplay, with the ball moving around, but Abhi and Rutu built the innings brilliantly. Yesterday, it was more about not being able to handle the pressure; it’s a young side with many new to international exposure,” Shubman said at the post-match interview.
“It was actually beneficial to experience pressure in the first game, and consequently, we knew what to expect coming into this match. With three matches remaining, we are eagerly looking forward to them. It’s always good to have more options rather than not having options,” the 24-year-old added.
Rinku Singh’s Redemption
In addition to Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh also had a standout performance with the bat. After not making it to India’s T20 World Cup squad, Rinku had a point to prove. Although he struggled in the first match, he excelled in the second, scoring 48 off 22 balls*, helping India post a total of 234 runs in the first innings.
