With a win over Canada in their previous match, Pakistan remains optimistic about their chances of making it to the Super 8 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Close defeats to the USA and India complicated their path, but the recent victory has boosted their prospects. However, the Babar Azam-led side still needs several factors to align in their favor.
Pakistan must beat Ireland in their final league game, while the Americans need to lose their last match against the same opponent. If this happens, net run rate (NRR) will determine which team progresses. Despite these calculations, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf emphasized that the team isn’t overly concerned about qualifications and is focused on playing good cricket.
“No, no, nothing like that is going on in our mind. We’re focusing only on our match and how to play. If we win our match, then we will accept whatever happens,” Rauf said in the post-match press conference, as quoted by India Today.
“Winning is crucial. You have to set a tone in any tournament. We won the match, our focus is on our games, and hopefully, we win the next match. And then whatever happens, if we qualify, God willing, we will qualify and play good cricket in the future,” he added.
The Babar Azam-led side will play their final group game on June 16 at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida. Reports indicate that bad weather could lead to the cancellation of Pakistan’s game against Ireland, posing a risk of the Men in Green missing out on the Super 8 stage. In such a scenario, India and the USA would advance instead.
