The initial contingent of Team India is scheduled to embark on their journey to the US on May 25 to compete in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, according to sources.
Commencing on June 1 in the West Indies and the USA, the tournament will witness India’s T20 World Cup campaign kick off on June 5 against Ireland at the newly-constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. A highly anticipated clash against Pakistan is slated for June 9. Followed by matches against tournament co-hosts USA (June 12) and Canada (June 15) to conclude their Group A fixtures.
The first wave of players departing will include those not involved in playoffs stage of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
India enters the tournament with aspirations to break their ICC trophy drought, last clinching the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Despite several notable appearances in ICC events since then, including reaching the 50-over World Cup final in 2023. Semifinals in 2015 and 2019, and the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023. As well as the T20-WC final in-2014 and semifinals in-2016 and 2022, securing a major ICC trophy has remained elusive.
Seeking to capture their first T20 WC title since their triumph in inaugural edition in 2007, held in South Africa. India aims to erase the disappointment of the previous edition in Australia in 2022. Where they suffered a defeat to England by 10 wickets in the semifinals.
