Laura Woods has been flooded with messages of support after announcing her absence from TV duties due to a significant facial injury.
The esteemed TNT Sports presenter, renowned for hosting major boxing events on DAZN, had a schedule to anchor coverage of the highly anticipated ‘Undisputed’ bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia.
However, Woods took to social media to reveal that she would miss the event following a mishap during her holiday. In a post, she explained, “Just wanted to explain my absence from the telly for a little while. To be totally transparent and avoid any speculation.”
Woods recounted the incident: “I had an accident last weekend at a holiday cottage. I swung a pillow and hit a large, glass lampshade hanging from the ceiling above me. Which shattered and cut my face and arms, but luckily missed my eye.”
Despite the ordeal, Woods expressed gratitude, saying, “It was a hell of a shock and I’ve been a bit sad, but I’m feeling very lucky it wasn’t worse. So a big thanks to my eyebrow too, for taking the brunt of it.”
She expressed disappointment about missing fight but extended well wishes to TNT boxing team, concluding with, “Be back soon xx.”
Upon sharing her message, Woods received an outpouring of support from colleagues and fans alike. TNT Sports responded, saying, “We’re all with you, Woodsy. Get well soon and we can’t wait to have you back.”
Rio Ferdinand, her colleague from TNT’s Champions League coverage, expressed regret and wished her a speedy recovery. Other prominent figures such as Theo Walcott, John Terry, Gabby Logan, and Eni Aluko also sent their best wishes.
Despite Woods’ absence, the showdown between Fury and Usyk to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world proceeded as scheduled in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night.
