The Sauber F1 Team is gearing up to introduce significant upgrades at the upcoming Imola Grand Prix in a bid to address persistent pitstop issues that have hindered their performance so far this season.
Despite showing flashes of potential on the track, drivers Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas have faced setbacks due to wheelnut cross-threading problems during pitstops, a result of new equipment introduced over the winter.
These challenges have left both drivers struggling at the back of the field after tire changes, with Bottas even enduring a pitstop that took over 30 seconds at the Australian Grand Prix, leading to a fine for an escaped wheelnut.
Acknowledging the severity of the issue, Bottas emphasized the team’s commitment to resolving it, stating, “We’re in this together… it is a priority now to get that sorted.”

Despite escaping pitstop issues at the Miami Grand Prix, Sauber still lacked the performance to challenge rivals, prompting the team to prioritize upgrades for the Imola race.
Team spokesperson Alunni Bravi highlighted the significance of the upcoming upgrades, stating, “We have important upgrades in Imola, not only concerning our pitstop issues but also aimed at enhancing overall performance.”
Experts anticipate that these upgrades will play a crucial role in shaping Sauber’s performance in the next few races and their prospects of scoring points in the fiercely competitive F1 season.
