BCCI Open to Revisiting Impact Player Rule in IPL

The Impact Player rule in the ongoing IPL has sparked debates among players, coaches, and experts, prompting BCCI Secretary Jay Shah to suggest a potential reconsideration of the rule. Introduced as a “test case,” the Impact Player rule has significantly influenced the tournament, with teams frequently surpassing the 250-run mark, raising concerns about its implications for bowlers and all-rounders.

Addressing the issue, Shah highlighted the positive aspect of the rule, emphasizing the increased playing opportunities for two Indian players. However, he acknowledged the need to address concerns raised by players and stake holders, indicating that discussions on the rule’s future would take place after the conclusion of the IPL and the T20 World Cup.

Shah emphasized the importance of considering feedback from players, franchises, and broadcasters before making any decisions regarding the rule. While the rule is not intended to be permanent. Shah emphasized the need for a comprehensive evaluation before determining the next steps.

In addition to discussing the Impact Player rule, Shah emphasized the BCCI’s commitment to enhancing women’s cricket by expanding their fixture calendar and increasing match fees. Despite plans to prioritize women’s cricket, Shah ruled out the possibility of expanding the number of teams in the Women’s Premier League, citing existing agreements with media and sponsorship rights holders.

Overall, Shah’s remarks suggest a willingness to address concerns regarding the Impact Player rule while reaffirming the BCCI’s commitment to advancing women’s cricket within existing parameters.
