KKR’s Turbulent Travel: From Guwahati to Varanasi Amidst Rainy Kolkata

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced unexpected hurdles during their journey from Lucknow to Kolkata after their recent IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Heavy rains in the eastern region of the country disrupted their flight schedule, leading to a series of unexpected events.

Initially scheduled to land in Kolkata at 7:25 pm, the KKR charter flight was diverted to Guwahati due to inclement weather. Despite efforts to return to Kolkata, the flight encountered further delays and was unable to land. Prompting another diversion, this time to Varanasi.

After several unsuccessful attempts to land in Kolkata, the team eventually landed in Varanasi around 3 am. They checked into a hotel for an overnight stay, with plans to reassess their return flight to Kolkata on Tuesday afternoon. The return flight is scheduled to depart from Varanasi at 1:15 pm.

Fortunately, KKR’s next match is not until Saturday, allowing them ample time to regroup after their turbulent travel experience. Their upcoming fixtures include a home game against Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens. Followed by matches in Ahmedabad and Guwahati against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals, respectively.

The heavy rainfall in Kolkata exacerbated existing concerns about waterlogging in the city. Which had experienced record-high temperatures in recent days. Images circulated on news broadcasts and social media platforms depicted the extent of the rainfall and its impact on the city’s streets.
