Afghanistan has announced a formidable 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies, emphasizing all-round talent with the inclusion of six versatile players, including captain Rashid Khan.
The squad features four frontline batters, including Ibrahim Zadran, Najibullah Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Mohammad Ishaq, supported by an array of all-rounders to strengthen the team’s depth in batting.
The presence of Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, and Nangeyalia Kharote adds significant depth and flexibility to Afghanistan’s batting lineup, providing options for various game situations.
In the bowling department, Afghanistan boasts a formidable spin attack led by Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi, complemented by Mujeeb-ur-Rahman and Noor Ahmad. Their spin prowess is expected to play a crucial role in the team’s performance throughout the tournament.
Notably absent from the squad is top-order batter Hashmatullah Shahidi, who captained Afghanistan in the 50-overs World Cup last year.
Afghanistan’s campaign in Group C kicks off against Uganda on June 3, where they will compete against New Zealand and West Indies. The top two teams from the group will progress to the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
