Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s recent Formula 1 performance, emphasizing the necessity to address underlying issues rather than relying on occasional bright spots.
Despite Lewis Hamilton’s second-place finish in the China sprint race, Mercedes struggled in the main grand prix, trailing behind McLaren and Ferrari once again. Wolff believes that while there have been glimpses of promise, the team must elevate its performance to meet expectations.
Speaking to ServusTV, Wolff admitted disappointment with the Chinese Grand Prix weekend, stating, “Not satisfied at all.” He acknowledged the significance of Hamilton’s sprint race result but stressed the overall lack of performance.
Wolff highlighted the ongoing challenges with Mercedes’ W15 car, noting that while progress has been made in certain areas, other issues have emerged, particularly in high-speed corners. The team has grappled with finding the right balance in car setup, as improvements in one aspect often come at the expense of performance in another.
Despite Mercedes’ struggles this season, Wolff maintains that the current car is not necessarily worse than previous iterations. Instead, he believes that the competitive landscape has shifted, with teams like McLaren and Ferrari improving their performance compared to previous seasons.
