The high-voltage clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2024 witnessed a remarkable display of batting prowess, but one notable absentee cast a shadow over RCB’s campaign – Glenn Maxwell.
SRH Sets Record-Breaking Total Against RCB (IPL 2024)

Despite Maxwell’s Absence, the match turned out to be a nail-biter. SRH went on to notch a record-breaking total of 287/3 in their allotted 20 overs, surpassing their own previous record set against Mumbai Indians earlier this season. This phenomenal knock by SRH established the IPL 2024 Highest Score to date.
RCB Chases Massive Target with Fighting Spirit
RCB batsmen displayed commendable determination while chasing this mammoth target. The pressure was immense, but they fought valiantly throughout their innings.
Maxwell Regrets Missing High-Scoring IPL Match
While RCB battled it out, many fans couldn’t help but wonder if Maxwell’s presence could have tilted the scales in their favor. Those suspicions were seemingly confirmed after the match, as Maxwell himself admitted to having second thoughts about his decision to take a break.
Glenn Maxwell Takes Mental and Physical Break from Cricket
In a post-match press conference, Maxwell revealed that he had opted for a break from cricket due to physical and mental fatigue. He had a conversation with RCB captain Faf du Plessis, and they mutually agreed that a break would be beneficial for Maxwell’s well-being. This approach had proven successful for him in the past.
However, witnessing the explosive batting display, particularly by Travis Head in the powerplay overs, Maxwell acknowledged a tinge of regret. “Looking at the pitch during the powerplay, it seemed less sluggish than usual,” Maxwell confessed. “In hindsight, it might have been a crucial match to be a part of.”
He further explained his decision, stating, “It was an easy call for me. After the last game, I spoke to Faf [du Plessis] and the coaches, mentioning it might be time to give someone else a chance. In the past, I’ve pushed myself when feeling low, which can be counterproductive. Taking a mental and physical break to recharge feels like the right step at this moment.”
RCB Struggles Continue With Sixth Loss in IPL 2024
This loss marks RCB’s sixth defeat in seven games, placing them at the bottom of the IPL 2024 standings. While Maxwell’s return might bolster their batting line-up in the coming matches, RCB has a significant uphill battle to climb if they want to turn their season around.
