Rodrygo, the forward for Real Madrid, has labeled Manchester City as the world’s best team and confessed that he and his teammates were hesitant about facing them in the Champions League quarter-finals.
However, the Brazilian also asserted that City were eager to avoid playing against Madrid. This matchup marks the third consecutive season the clubs meet, with City seeking revenge after last year’s semi-final loss, which saw Madrid emerge victorious in 2022, thanks to Rodrygo’s two crucial goals in stoppage time.
While reminiscing about the upcoming tie, Rodrygo mentioned the mixed emotions it evokes, acknowledging the strength of both teams. He emphasized the mutual respect between the two sides and anticipated a fiercely contested encounter.
Despite Madrid’s dominance in La Liga and City’s involvement in a tight Premier League title race, Rodrygo believes that City pose the toughest challenge. He praised City’s quality, describing them as the current Champions League and world champions, showcasing his respect for their abilities.
Reflecting on his pivotal impact against City two years ago, Rodrygo acknowledged the shift in opponents’ approach towards him. He highlighted how his performance in that match elevated his status in football and changed the way opponents defend against him.
Rodrygo also disclosed his decision to reject a transfer to Liverpool in 2017, opting to stay at Santos before eventually joining Real Madrid. Despite the tempting offer from Liverpool and the promising pathway they presented, Rodrygo followed his desire to remain at Santos and fulfill his dream of playing for the club.
