New Zealand’s T20I squad for the upcoming tour of Pakistan sees the return of allrounder Michael Bracewell to international cricket after a prolonged injury layoff. Bracewell, who will also captain the team, last played for New Zealand in March last year before suffering a ruptured right Achilles while representing Worcestershire in the T20 Blast. His comeback shines brightly, notably marked by a stellar performance in the Plunket Shield, where he achieved a career-best 8 for 41.
Uncapped batter Tim Robinson joins Bracewell in the squad, earning his spot through explosive performances in domestic cricket. Robinson impressed with his aggressive batting in the Super Smash, finishing as the second-leading run-scorer with 298 runs at an impressive average and strike rate. Selector Sam Wells praised Robinson’s natural ability and explosive power, making him a promising addition to the team.
Fast bowler Will O’Rourke, who made his mark earlier this season in Test and ODI cricket, has also been named in the squad. His inclusion provides an opportunity to further test his skills in foreign conditions.
The squad notably excludes nine players who are currently engaged in IPL commitments, as well as Will Young, Tom Latham, and Tim Southee. The tour to Pakistan assumes significant importance as it aims to finalize the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Speaking about Bracewell’s appointment as captain, Wells emphasized his leadership experience and resilience following his injury setbacks. With Bracewell’s return and the inclusion of promising talents like Robinson and O’Rourke, New Zealand aims to put forward a competitive performance in the T20I series against Pakistan.
