Cricket fans rejoice! The highly anticipated return of the Pakistan vs Ireland T20I series is finally happening in May 2024. This three-match showdown serves as a crucial warm-up act for both teams in the lead-up to the prestigious T20 World Cup 2024 co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA.
Renewing Rivalry on Irish Soil

This T20I series marks the first meeting between Pakistan and Ireland since 2018, when Pakistan emerged victorious in a five-wicket win at Dublin’s Malahide. Cricket enthusiasts will be eagerly waiting to witness this renewed cricketing rivalry on Irish soil. The global Covid-19 pandemic unfortunately led to the postponement of a two-match T20I series between the two sides planned for July 2020.
Sharpening Skills for the World Cup Stage
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the T20Is will be played at Castle Avenue in Dublin on May 10th, 12th, and 14th. This three-match series adds to Pakistan’s extensive T20I itinerary leading up to the T20 World Cup, bringing their total to 12 fixtures. Other noteworthy upcoming series include a five-match clash against New Zealand and a four-match battle against England.
Ireland Seeking Redemption
Ireland, coming off a challenging multi-format series defeat against Afghanistan in the UAE, will be looking to bounce back and find their winning form. The team will be aiming to use this T20I series against Pakistan as a springboard for success in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
A Change in Plans
While fans were anticipating another exciting T20I series between Pakistan and the Netherlands in May, these plans were unfortunately postponed indefinitely. The PCB cited scheduling conflicts and player workload management as the reasons behind this decision.
Group Stage Showdown
Interestingly, both Pakistan and Ireland find themselves placed together in Group A of the T20 World Cup alongside India, Canada, and the USA. This T20I series thus presents a valuable opportunity for both teams to not only assess their strengths and weaknesses but also gain valuable insights into each other’s playing styles before their potential group stage encounter at the World Cup.
