In a dominant start to his IPL 2024 campaign, Australian opener David Warner put on a show for the Delhi Capitals (DC) fans in their ongoing clash against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Partnering with Mitchell Marsh at the top of the order, Warner displayed his aggressive batting style, taking full advantage of the fielding restrictions in the powerplay to lay a strong foundation for a big total.
A defining moment of Warner’s innings arrived in the fifth over when PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan brought back the lethal Kagiso Rabada for his second spell. While Rabada started economically, Warner wasn’t fazed. He swatted away a boundary followed by a monumental six, leaving a shell-shocked Rabada in his wake.
The sensational shot came off a length delivery from Rabada, showcasing Warner’s mastery. His exquisite lap shot sailed majestically over the fine leg fence for a maximum of six runs, sending the DC crowd into a frenzy.
Following the dismissal of Mitchell Marsh, Shai Hope joined Warner in the middle to steady the innings. Currently, the Delhi Capitals have raced to an impressive 74 runs for the loss of just one wicket in 7.5 overs. Warner remains unbeaten on a well-paced 29 runs, while Hope has contributed a steady 17 runs.
